Letting Go and Trusting God Through Every Season of Life With Hope and Rest

Can I tell you something? Letting go and trusting God is so much easier to say than to do. I wish it was as simple as flipping a switch, deciding I’ll let go of control, and suddenly living with total peace and rest. But if you’re anything like me, that trust doesn’t come in a single moment. It starts small. And sometimes it feels clumsy. But it grows.

On our recent podcast episode, as we stepped into a new year together, I did a lot of reflecting. I think back on all the honest stories and the sacred little moments women have shared here. There’s this one truth I keep coming back to: God is working in our lives, even when life feels out of control. Our lives change, our seasons change, but God’s presence and love aren’t changing. That’s the anchor for letting go and trusting God.

Why Does Letting Go and Trusting God Feel So Hard Sometimes?

Does this sound familiar? You hold tight to your plans. You’re always two steps ahead, just in case something falls through. You make to-do lists but then add a backup list, just in case. Friend, I see you. I do this too.

The truth is, learning to let go and trusting God means releasing some of our urge to control every outcome. But we do this not because it’s all up to us, but because God actually invites us to rest. Even when we feel unsettled. Even when there’s fog. Even when nothing makes sense on paper. We can rest because God is still holding the pen to our story.

I remember a time last year, walking through a season that looked nothing like the plans I’d written out. I kept hearing God whisper, "Rest. I’ve got this." But I was still clutching my idea of how things should go. Surrendering isn’t a one-time decision. It happens moment by moment. And in those moments, that’s where I learn what letting go and trusting God looks like in real life.

What Letting Go and Trusting God Looks Like in Everyday Life

Small Steps, Big Shifts

Sometimes letting go and trusting God looks like setting down your phone and just breathing. Sometimes it looks like taking a nap without guilt. Setting healthy boundaries. Saying yes to one more task, or saying no when your heart needs rest. All those little choices add up.

One friend from the podcast shared about trusting God not just in storms, but in blessings, too. That stuck with me. The things we pray for can come with uncertainty and new responsibility, but God is still present. The invitation is always the same: keep saying yes, even when you can’t see the whole road. Keep letting go and trusting God as He leads you, one small step at a time.

Letting Go Means Not Needing All the Answers

Here’s the thing. You don’t have to understand everything to rest in God. Sometimes, peace comes before the clarity. Sometimes He gives you direction before He gives you all the information. Letting go and trusting God means believing He is still good, that He still has you, even if your hands are shaky and your plans don’t look like they used to.

And do you know what else? You don’t have to feel qualified or ready. Just be willing. You already matter to God. Your small steps, your willingness to rest, your little surrenders every day, they count. They multiply. I see it in our community. God uses even your smallest step of obedience.

How Do We Practice Letting Go and Trusting God Daily?

Ask Honest Questions

Sometimes you won’t even know what you need to surrender until you stop for a second and ask: Where am I striving instead of resting? What am I holding tight that God is inviting me to lay down?

Those questions open the door for God to speak. It’s okay if you don’t have the answers right away. Some of the most beautiful growth in my life has come when I finally asked God to show me where I needed to let go. He’s so gentle as He teaches us. The podcast is full of stories from friends who did exactly that.

Recognize God’s Presence in the Everyday

There are little glimpses of God’s love in our morning routines, in the funny things our kids do, in quiet moments on the road or in the kitchen. I’ve learned to watch for those. God delights in the details. Even the quirks and small joys are part of His care over us. And that truth helps make letting go and trusting God a little more real every single day.

Practice Rest Without Guilt

Maybe this is the most surprising part. Letting go and trusting God sometimes means learning to rest, really rest, without guilt. I meet women every week who feel like rest is just for other people. Or who can’t slow down because there’s always something that needs to be done. But this, right here, is where faith intersects with daily life. Rest is a statement that you know God will take care of you, even when you pause. He’s working while you wait. You’re not wasting time. You’re honoring your limits and letting God hold the pieces together.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 (CSB), “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He isn’t saying, "Come to me with your solutions and strategic plans." He’s inviting us to lay down our burdens, our striving, and just come. That’s letting go and trusting God at the heart level.

What Happens When We Finally Let Go and Trust God?

New Freedom, Real Peace

Letting go and trusting God doesn’t always look flashy or dramatic. Sometimes it’s silent. It only feels different on the inside. But little by little, you find your heart lightening. Joy starts showing up in small places. Peace sneaks in between the lines of your day. And you realize, maybe for the first time, that God never needed you to have it all together. He just wanted you to trust Him with the pieces you can’t carry on your own.

We Grow as a Community

I love watching our Perspectives Into Practice community. Each story, each honest confession, makes space for God to move in new ways. When one of us lets go and trusts God, it encourages all of us. It’s never just about our own faith. It’s about the body, about hope rippling out in unexpected ways. Maybe your small surrender is the exact thing another woman needs to see hope today.

Practical Ways to Start Letting Go and Trusting God Right Now

Pay Attention

  • Notice the places you feel overwhelmed or pressured to perform.
  • Ask God to reveal where you’re still holding onto control.

Rest Intentionally

  • Give yourself permission to take a break, even for a minute.
  • Remind yourself God is working while you rest.

Share Your Story

  • Talk to a friend or share your journey in our community.
  • Your courage encourages others.

Stay in the Moment

  • Ask, "What is God inviting me to do today?"
  • Focus on the next little step, not the whole path.
